About The Position

UPMC Western Behavioral Health at Safe Harbor is looking for a passionate Crisis Clinician II to join their Crisis Services team. Crisis Services has been Erie County’s 24/7 crisis hotline operator and community crisis responder since 1993, offering phone, mobile, and walk-in services to individuals of all ages. The department also provides comprehensive crisis interventions and is part of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The Crisis Clinician II will provide clinical services to individuals experiencing a self-identified crisis, answer phones, obtain clinical information, respond to crisis situations in the community, and document all related activities. This role also serves as a shift supervisor, overseeing day-to-day operations and reviewing documentation for quality assurance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work WITH two years mental health direct care experience WITH one year crisis experience OR Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work WITH two years clinical experience.
  • Other fields of study may be considered with coursework of at least 12 credits in human services and/or relevant mental health experience
  • Work history that includes phone triage, as well as an in-depth knowledge and proven skill at doing psychiatric assessments.
  • Experience in mental health crisis intervention, case management, or in-home therapy preferred.
  • Excellent, recovery-oriented interpersonal relations

Responsibilities

  • Conduct crisis assessments, provide counseling, and manage acute situations across community/office settings
  • Deliver follow-up support (phone/mobile), develop crisis plans, and coordinate appropriate referrals
  • Utilize motivational interviewing and other techniques to promote stability and positive outcomes
  • Maintain documentation standards, complete paperwork, and track follow-up services for quality care
  • Navigate insurance processes and secure authorizations as needed
  • Lead team operations, support staff onboarding, and collaborate in interdisciplinary activities
