About The Position

Deschutes County Health Services is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist II to join their Crisis Team. This position is based at the Deschutes County Stabilization Center (DCSC) and involves work both at the center and in the community within the Deschutes County catchment area. The role offers an excellent team environment with support from colleagues and leadership, including 24/7 supervisor availability for urgent consultations. This is an opportunity to specialize in crisis work and develop leadership skills. The position involves providing phone and face-to-face crisis screening, assessment, and referral for a variety of situations, including high-risk children and adults requiring hospital, residential, or respite care. Responsibilities may include crisis interventions, assessments, safety planning, care coordination, case management, and follow-up care. The successful candidate will need to become a director’s designee within 60 days of employment. The role offers varied workloads and a fluid, dynamic work schedule. Behavioral Health Specialists II collaborate closely with Case Managers, Peer Support Specialists, and Behavioral Health Technicians, and coordinate services with community partners such as law enforcement, 911 dispatch, hospitals, schools, and other healthcare clinics. This is a night shift position with a work schedule of Saturday - Monday from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, and will require working some holidays.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Recreational Therapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy or a behavioral science field; AND one (1) year of experience in the behavioral health field; OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.
  • Knowledge of or experience with community behavioral health and addictions concepts.
  • Knowledge of or experience with client assessment and case management.
  • Knowledge of or experience with treatment services, planning and protocols.
  • Knowledge of or experience with behavioral health disorders and diagnostic classifications.
  • Knowledge of or experience with psychological, sociological and psychiatric theories.
  • Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in working effectively both independently and in a team setting.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients and their families, other agencies and the public at all times.
  • Well-developed human relations skills with an appreciable interpersonal sensitivity and awareness of client situations and values.
  • Interviewing and counseling skills.
  • Writing skills to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Driving is a requirement for this position.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must have dependable transportation and be willing and able to drive throughout the tri-county area in sometimes adverse weather conditions.
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, when necessary, to meet client and department needs.
  • Candidates must not be excluded (or Opt-out) from participation in the federal health care programs (Medicaid, Medicare and other federally funded programs that provide health benefits).
  • Candidates must not be excluded from participating in federal procurement (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and non-procurement activities (Executive Order No. 12549).
  • All clinicians providing Mental Health services must be eligible to be enrolled in Oregon Medicaid as a MH Provider within the first 30 days for hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Current licensure without restrictions from a recognized governing board in Oregon as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
  • Previous experience providing crisis intervention.
  • Previous experience with SPMI.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
