About The Position

This position conducts comprehensive criminal history research to identify marijuana possession convictions that qualify for review under applicable state law. It ensures the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of Alaska criminal history records and the National Criminal History Repository. The position reviews and verifies criminal history records, court documents, charging instruments, judgments, and other source records to determine statutory eligibility. It coordinates with state and local criminal justice agencies to obtain missing documentation, resolve discrepancies, and reconcile records with federal repositories. The position documents research findings and prepares eligible cases for subsequent review and processing under the Marijuana Conviction Review Project. The Criminal Records Unit processes all disposition information into the state’s criminal history repository. The repository is used by criminal justice and non-criminal justice agencies throughout Alaska and nationwide, and the information maintained in the repository is critical for public safety to ensure decisions based on criminal history records are made using the most complete and accurate information available.
