About The Position

The Alaska Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking a Criminal Justice Technician 2 to join the Public Information Request and Research Unit’s (PIRRU) Mobile Audio and Video Recording Equipment Team (MAVR). Responsibilities include reviewing and redacting body-worn camera and dashcam footage, photos, and 911 audio to fulfill public information requests while protecting the rights of individuals and ensuring department compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and court opinions. This position involves reviewing and processing incident files; photo, audio, and video evidence involving sexual assault, sexual abuse of minors, assault, suicide, homicides, etc. DPS strives to preserve peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. As a member of DPS and the MAVR team, you will be instrumental in ensuring this mission is met by adhering to the Alaska Public Records Act, and other applicable statutes, regulations, and court decisions. You will contribute directly to the department’s goals of increasing transparency and trust with the public and supporting public safety across the state of Alaska.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of training under a formally established Criminal Justice Technician 1-2 flexible staffing training plan with the State of Alaska; OR Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in: Integrity/Honesty, Computer Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Oral and Written Communication, Problem Solving, Reasoning.
  • Equivalent to those typically gained by: Any combination of education and/or paraprofessional or professional experience or service in criminal justice, juvenile justice, probation, parole, public safety, law enforcement, corrections, court, legal services, law office, social services, social sciences, or public assistance programs or functions.
  • Full User APSIN Certification per 13 AAC 68.215(f).
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Incumbent must submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check.
  • The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety.
