About The Position

This position is responsible for providing effective instruction for assigned courses. The instructor will guide the class, maintain accurate student records, prepare thoroughly for each instructional hour, and foster a safe and orderly learning environment. Responsibilities include grading student work, counseling students on their progress, developing classroom materials, designing curriculum, and maintaining regular office hours. The role also involves staying current with teaching methods and technology, using assessment techniques to enhance learning, serving on college or department committees, and attending professional development opportunities. Communication with other instructors to ensure course relevance and participation in graduation exercises are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
  • Be innovative, creative, motivated
  • Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others
  • Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently
  • Good organizational skills
  • Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including, computers, and web-based resources such as BlackBoard.
  • Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
  • Bachelor's degree with third party credential
  • Significant industry experience
  • Teaching and/or training experience in Criminal Justice

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Community college teaching experience
  • Experience using learning management system, preferably Blackboard

Responsibilities

  • Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
  • Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
  • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
  • Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
  • Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
  • Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction
  • Maintains regular office hours
  • Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom
  • Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
  • Serves on college or department committees as needed
  • Attends professional development opportunities when possible
  • Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selecting text and constructing a syllabus
  • Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
  • Participate in graduation exercises
