About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Criminal Justice Teacher is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This role performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Teacher also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.

Requirements

  • Valid Colorado Teaching License or CTE Authorization within 60 days from date of hire
  • Secondary CTE Law Enforcement Services Endorsement or Teacher must be highly qualified in applicable content area through the following options: Content Knowledge (Applicants must have A or B): A. 24 semester hours of related postsecondary coursework verified on an official transcript to include a minimum of 3 semester hours of content coursework in four of the areas listed in the table below. OR B. Applicants who provide a valid and current state or national industry license or certification in the appropriate occupational area may have the content coursework waived by the Colorado Department of Education (e.g., Police Officer, Standards and Training (POST), National Academy of Emergency Dispatchers (NAED)). This does not include teacher licenses.
  • Occupational Experience (Applicants must have either option 1, 2 or 3): Credit for student teaching up to 800 hours, in the content area, may be applied to either occupational or teaching experience 1. If you hold a Bachelor's degree or higher: 2,000 hours of verified occupational (non-teaching) experience in the content area within the last seven years OR 2. If you hold less than a Bachelor's degree: 4,000 hours of verified occupational (non-teaching) experience in the content area within the last seven years OR 3. 3 years verified teaching experience in the content area within the last seven years (full-time is defined as 51% or more of a teaching schedule dedicated to teaching in the content area).

  • Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary

  • Previous experience as a certified teacher
  • Knowledge of content standards and implementation of standards-based curriculum
  • Ability to teach and meet the academic needs of all students ensuring academic progress in all content areas especially in reading/writing and mathematics
  • Ability to collaborate with all instructional staff
  • Previous experience to make instructional decisions using data
  • Knowledge/experience with the five components of reading and commitment to support and implement explicit and systematic reading instruction, based on scientific research
  • Ability to use technology and integrate technology skills into the curriculum
  • Knowledge / experience teaching the diverse learner especially students who may have a specific learning plan such as an IEP, ILP, ELL, 504, etc.
  • Demonstrated effective classroom management skills
  • Knowledge /experience with and ability to implement scientific-based research best practices
  • Previous experience with and ability to utilize effective small groups and whole class direct instruction strategies to differentiate instruction
  • Knowledge / experience in implementing the Title I parental involvement plan
  • Knowledge / experience with Positive Behavior Support Program or willing to implement the school-wide discipline plan
  • Knowledge and understanding of Common Core standards
  • Ability to unpack standards and align with curriculum
  • Ability to write specific learning goals, objectives and outcomes
  • Ability to analyze and use multiple data sources to make sound instructional decisions
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate with colleagues and actively participate in professional learning communities
  • Ability to use technology and incorporate/teach 21st century skills
  • Ability to scaffold and differentiate instruction
  • Ability and willingness to integrate reading, writing and math throughout the curriculum
  • Computer expertise or an expectation to learn Infinite Campus
  • Positive public relation skills, professionalism, strong work ethic, ability to develop positive relationships with school and community
  • Ability to demonstrate the communication skills with students, parents, and teachers to enhance the educational, personal, and social aspect of each student

Responsibilities
