About The Position

The Criminal Justice Planner plays an important role in the planning, research, development, implementation, and evaluation of criminal justice programs and projects throughout the City of Portsmouth. This position serves as staff to the Community Criminal Justice Board and works closely with local, state, and federal criminal justice stakeholders, as well as members of the Portsmouth community. The CJP will assist with strategic planning, coordinate CCJB projects and meetings, conduct data and policy analysis and legal research, manage project evaluations, and prepare detailed reports.

Requirements

  • Experience in criminal justice, including program or project analysis and evaluation of court services programs.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and computer applications.
  • Knowledge of program planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Experience with Microsoft products, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships.
  • The ability to maintain professionalism and treat all individuals with respect and dignity.
  • The ability to positively represent the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office and Portsmouth Community Criminal Justice Board in public.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Must maintain eligibility for correctional facility security clearance.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Research, plan, and implement criminal justice projects and programs consistent with CCJB goals and objectives.
  • Serve as a liaison and assist ad hoc committees and task forces with special projects and programs benefiting the CCJB.
  • Develop and implement data collection processes necessary for project analysis.
  • Monitor special project progress, including tracking expenditures, developing required reports and resolutions, making recommendations, and assisting with grant development.
  • Coordinate activities related to CCJB projects and programs, including arranging meetings, maintaining project files and information, and coordinating schedules.
