Instructor - Criminal Justice
About The Position
The Department of Criminal Justice at Austin Peay State University is seeking an on-ground instructor for a three-year, renewable position starting July 30, 2027. This role involves approximately nine months of full-time service per year. The department offers bachelor's and master of science degrees in criminal justice, with optional concentrations in homeland security, as well as a bachelor's degree in national security studies. The program serves about 400 undergraduate and 60 graduate students annually and utilizes diverse delivery methods including face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats. The successful candidate must be capable of teaching in all modalities. The Department of Criminal Justice is experiencing significant growth.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in criminal justice or criminology, a J.D., a Master’s degree in law/legal studies, or a Master’s degree in criminal justice with significant experience in courts/law.
- A background search will be required of the successful applicant.

- An ability to teach a wide range of law-focused criminal justice courses
- Experience teaching across a variety of delivery methods (online, hybrid, face-to-face, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Teach four to five courses (graduate and undergraduate level) per academic semester as assigned by the chair
- Advise majors as needed
- Provide service, including, but not limited to, departmental, college, and/or university committee work
- Teach courses in all modalities (face-to-face, online, and hybrid/blended formats)
- Potentially teach during summer semesters for additional compensation (subject to performance and availability)
