About The Position

The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in the Wastewater Department, located in the heart of Central Louisiana. This role involves performing technical tasks at the supervisory level on an assigned shift, including various construction, repair, maintenance, and operational activities in support of the Wastewater Department Collection system. This position is subject to 24-hour call and responds to emergency calls during inclement weather or other emergencies.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater collection and operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Louisiana Class IV Wastewater Collection certification.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver's license within 60 days and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a valid State of Louisiana Class A or B commercial driver's license.
  • Will be required to obtain and maintain specialized certifications and/or training as deemed necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with lesser certifications may be considered depending upon their previous work history, level of certification, and needs of the department.
  • Such candidate(s) selected for hire must enter into a written transition plan to achieve certification as a Class IV Wastewater Collection Operator.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, schedules, supervises, assigns, reviews and inspects operations, maintenance and construction activities of the wastewater collection system on an assigned shift.
  • Monitors work in progress and ensures compliance with established standards; advises crews in techniques and practices; reviews reports; prepares requests for materials and supplies.
  • Provides input in the process of developing specifications for equipment and material procurement; assists in receiving, inspecting, sorting and issuing required parts and supplies; monitors use of supplies and inventory levels.
  • Receives and reviews timesheets, overtime reports and related documents.
  • Performs technical tasks in support of wastewater department operations; supervises collection system repairs; supervises the installation of sewer mains and taps; locates and prepares video of sewer lines; conducts mechanical repairs on pumps; troubleshoots electrical problems.
  • Utilizes various tools and equipment to perform required field work as needed; utilizes an amp meter and volt meter to troubleshoot electrical problems; operates a CCTV push camera to conduct service line inspections; utilizes an electronic locator to locate sewer lines; operates various pieces of heavy equipment to include a backhoe, front-end loader, lawn mower, weed eater and other equipment.
