About The Position

The City of Greensboro Water Resources Department is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Crew Member (Stormwater) to perform hands-on maintenance and repair of the City’s stormwater infrastructure. This position works as part of a team to maintain drainage systems, operate equipment, respond to weather-related needs, and help keep Greensboro’s streets, neighborhoods, and waterways safe and protected. The Water Resources Department provides essential services that protect public health, the environment, and Greensboro’s infrastructure. The Stormwater team maintains and repairs systems throughout the community, helping manage drainage, reduce flooding risks, and protect local waterways.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED with experience in general construction or experience installing or maintaining underground utilities
  • Valid Driver's License
  • North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License (Or the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire date)
  • Tanker endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of the City's stormwater infrastructure.
  • Install and repair open and closed stormwater systems.
  • Operate job-specific equipment, including single-axle and tandem dump trucks.
  • Work in and around ditches, creeks, drainage systems, traffic, and heavy equipment.
  • Work safely in confined spaces and other challenging environments.
  • Operate trucks and equipment as part of the City's Snow and Ice Removal Program.
  • Follow written and verbal assignments and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Exercise independent judgment when completing assigned work.
  • Apply formal technical and safety training to perform work safely and effectively.
  • Maintain awareness of hazards associated with traffic, heavy equipment, weather, construction, and stormwater work.
  • Work a flexible schedule during emergencies, holiday periods, or severe weather events, including weekends, nights, and holidays, sometimes with little or no notice.
  • Work 12-hour shifts during winter weather or other weather-related events when assigned to the Snow and Ice Removal Program.
  • Perform physically demanding work including standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, shoveling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Maintain a reliable means of contact, such as a home or cell phone, as a condition of remaining in the position.
