About The Position

DeKalb County Government is seeking dependable, safety-focused, and experienced Crew Leaders to join the Solid Waste Management Department. Crew Leaders help lead daily field operations while working alongside their team to support safe and efficient solid waste and landfill operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CDL professional who enjoys hands-on work, understands field operations, and is ready to take the next step into a day-to-day leadership role. The purpose of the Crew Leader classification is to lead a small crew of workers engaged in the maintenance and upkeep of public infrastructure. This is a working leadership position. Crew Leaders coordinate daily assignments, organize and prioritize work, provide direction and training, monitor work and safety practices, troubleshoot field issues, and actively participate in completing assigned projects. Crew Leaders may also serve in the absence of the supervisor. Within Solid Waste Management, Crew Leaders may lead and participate in solid waste processing and disposal, landfill operations, grounds and roadside maintenance, and other related maintenance and operational projects. This position may operate or work around a variety of vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery, and tools, including dump trucks, backhoes, mini-excavators, skid steers, loaders, compactors, forklifts, excavators, dozers, tractors, trailers, and other equipment associated with Solid Waste Management operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of experience in the construction, repair, or maintenance of public infrastructure or a related field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid 12-month DOT Medical Blue Card as a condition of employment for some departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Some assignments may require a Georgia Class A Commercial Driver’s License and/or special endorsements.
