About The Position

Under the supervision of the Workforce Coordinator, the Crew Leader will oversee and facilitate the activities of the youth participants enrolled in the Environmental Corps Program. The Crew Leader is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the success and development of the youth participants throughout the duration of the program. This is a temporary position expected to end August 14th 2026.

Requirements

  • 1+ years’ experience working with young adults – typically 17-24 years old.
  • Previous experience working with youth, preferably in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Current CA Driver’s License, current auto insurance and a clean driving record.
  • Current CPR & First Aid Certificate (every 2 years thereafter)
  • Current Immunizations (TB) (every 2 years thereafter)
  • Clearance Child Abuse Index
  • Independent thinker, possess excellent customer service skills, professional attitude, a high level of personal integrity, maturity, and business judgment required.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize task, meet deadlines, able to do presentations and to maintain confident information.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a well-organized professional who thrives in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to remain tactful under pressure and present a professional demeanor and communication style with co-workers in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to be culturally aware when working with clients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Chrome.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite: Sheets, Slides, Docs, and Drive.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with client information.

Nice To Haves

  • AS Degree with an emphasis in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Education, Youth Development, or a related field, preferred.
  • Strong background in working with communities that are underserved preferred.
  • Knowledge of Mission District preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership to the youth participants, serving as a positive role model and mentor.
  • Supervise and direct the daily activities of the youth crew, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and cooperation among crew members.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of program activities, including community service projects, workshops, and team-building exercises.
  • Lead fieldwork such as wildfire risk reduction work, permaculture farm work, habitat enhancement.
  • Facilitate discussions and activities to increase awareness and understanding of environmental issues among crew members.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure that activities align with program goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate logistics such as transportation, equipment, and supplies needed for program activities.
  • Transport youth to and from various worksites and tour sites.
  • Provide guidance and support to youth participants, offering encouragement and constructive feedback to help them reach their full potential.
  • Assist participants in setting and achieving personal and professional goals during the program.
  • Identify and address any issues or challenges faced by participants, offering appropriate resources and assistance as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during program activities, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Identify and mitigate any potential risks or hazards associated with program activities, taking appropriate action to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies or incidents that may arise, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with program staff, providing regular updates on participant progress, challenges, and achievements.
  • Collaborate with management, community partners, and volunteers to enhance program offerings and opportunities for youth participants.
  • Keep accurate records of participant attendance, performance, and achievements throughout the program.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Always represent the Company in a professional manner.
  • Maintain personal safety, use personal protection equipment (PPE) and follow Company policies.
  • Report all and any safety issues, accidents or injuries to your manager as a matter of priority.
  • Promotes the health and safety of participants and follows safety and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to interact positively with team members.
  • Ability to facilitate positive change.
  • Partner with supervisor when necessary to address department issues or concerns.
  • Ability to partner/help other Program departments as needed.
