About The Position

The Crew Leader performs a wide variety of tasks in the field relating to the installation, replacement, and maintenance of piping systems, serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This individual’s primary work is on piping systems and commercial and industrial gas equipment. Daily duties entail performing installations, replacement, and repairs of field infrastructure and customer’s gas equipment. They will also be responsible for directing the daily activities of the Mechanics group. They will communicate with the Operations Manager daily to coordinate the work load and oversee that it is completed in a safe and timely manner. The Crew Leader oversees and directs the Gas Construction Mechanics group on daily activities. They will ensure that all safety and quality standards are met daily. They will also ensure that effective and efficient work practices are utilized to ensure production goals. If necessary, this individual will prepare written memos communicating complex topics and problems to customers.

Requirements

  • Possess a solid understanding of system components including Town Border Stations, Farm Taps, District Regulator Stations, and Service Regulators as they pertain to construction and repairs.
  • Strong knowledge of gas pipeline construction standards, excavation practices, and safety regulations.
  • Competency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and utility maps.
  • Obtain and maintain Operator Qualification (OQ) certification in applicable tasks (e.g., fusion, tapping, pressure testing).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Must possess and maintain a commercial driver’s license (CDL), air brake qualified with hazmat & tank endorsement.
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all required testing and DOT standards.
  • Ability to handle tools, equipment, and operate machinery with precision.
  • Capability to lift and carry heavy equipment or materials, typically up to 50 pounds, occasionally more with assistance.
  • Endurance to perform physically demanding tasks over extended periods, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Ability to work in various outdoor environments, including uneven terrain, confined spaces, and at heights (e.g., ladders or poles).
  • Willingness and ability to work in extreme weather conditions—heat, cold, rain, or snow.
  • Adequate visual acuity for reading instruments, maps, and safety labels.
  • Sufficient hearing to communicate clearly, recognize alarms, and detect sounds of equipment or gas leaks.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and balance for safe operation of tools and movement across job sites.
  • Ability to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, helmets, respirators, and protective clothing consistently.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three (3) years of industry experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership and direction to the construction team.
  • Ensure all construction equipment is maintained in safe, operational condition.
  • Review and verify all documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage and control job site inventory.
  • Evaluate and update as-built documentation for company records.
  • Conduct self-inspections of company construction projects.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable Pipeline Safety Regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure all job sites adhere to safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Properly maintain all company-issued tools and equipment.
  • Attend required training sessions to maintain skills and compliance.
  • Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities but will provide guidance and oversight of construction activities, leading daily crew activities.
  • Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.
