The Underground Crew Leader position is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role involves working safely on new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized underground systems. The Crew Leader is responsible for supervising crew members, possessing a strong understanding of leadership and management skills, and training lower-skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures. This position requires expertise in underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks, as well as the ability to troubleshoot problems on underground circuits. The role frequently involves working with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and care to ensure safety. Additionally, the Crew Leader must maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools, comply with reporting procedures, and coordinate and inspect the work of crew members. The job also entails planning safe work based on job prints or work orders, understanding sloping and shoring requirements, and knowing ladder requirements. The Crew Leader must be able to properly ask for and take line clearances and possess a working knowledge of line protection devices. The role also includes the ability to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE, identify and locate puller and tensioner setups, and perform all other related work required to complete the job.
