About The Position

This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. The purpose of this class within the organization is to supervise employees, assign tasks and responsibilities, and maintain assigned facilities and grounds. Due to the nature of the activities performed this position requires the ability to make prudent and independent decisions as they apply to assigned daily activities. Essential Functions: Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business. Develops and performs preventive and routine maintenance measures. Oversees work performance and ensures all work is performed safely according to guidelines set by the City. Operates computer and job-related software to enter, retrieve, review or modify data. Responds to citizen complaints and ensures corrective action is taken. Safely operates motor vehicles, light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles, and light-duty and heavy-duty equipment. Ensures all work is performed safely according to the guidelines set by the City. Works regardless of weather conditions, respond to natural disasters. Maintains current knowledge of awareness of all regulatory requirements specific to the positions assigned. Performs other work as assigned. Verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections as appropriate. Performs general and specific tasks for needed maintenance of facilities, coordinating and communicating effectively with contractors, suppliers, patrons, and employees of the City. May be required to create annual reports, create invoices, and recover funds for claims of damaged City of Murfreesboro property.

Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Requires three years of experience in maintenance or related fields.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license.
  • May require Class B driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one (1) year of applied natural resource management experience preferred; specifically native and invasive plant identification.

  • Train and supervise the Lands Crew during conservation work projects, which may include: Constructing and maintaining trails, Restoring habitat, Maintaining public parks, campgrounds, and recreation areas, Planting trees, Conducting native plant revegetation, Eradicating exotic/invasive plant species, Biological surveying, Conducting ecological testing and monitoring, Mapping and monitoring using GPS technology.
  • Lead, train, schedule, and oversee daily/weekly management activities of crew and seasonal staff.
  • Delegating tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Clearly communicating end goals, expectations, and assignments.
  • Working closely with park maintenance leaders on achieving high quality standards/best management practices as they pertain to established management plans and overall habitat health.
  • Ensuring all staff is up to date on all certifications, mandatory city training, and equipment safety training.
  • Support, coach, mentor, and supervise members in both technical and interpersonal professional development.
  • Contribute to the development of resource management planning initiatives such as annual work plans, schedules, summaries, and reports.
  • Contribute to baseline site inventories, implementation of monitoring programs, and data management systems to evaluate the effectiveness of various restoration and management programs.
  • Collaborate and communicate with project partners and other city crews and staff.
  • Organize and lead volunteer groups.
  • Developing safety protocols and enforcing the use of appropriate safety procedures in all tasks.
  • Ensure personal and crew safety while in the field, especially as it relates to the use of power tools and other safety-sensitive equipment.
  • Manage and replace items as needed in personal protective equipment (PPE) set.
  • Maintain and repair hand tools, power tools, and other equipment as necessary.
  • Quantify and document management actions to summarize annual work, propose new actions, and monitor results.
  • Collect, record, and submit accurate, detailed project data.
  • Provide feedback to the Natural Resource Manager on identifying invasive species control priorities or treatment effectiveness, and relocation of native species to appropriate habitats.
  • Represent the Natural Resource Management section in various intra-agency teams, meetings, and working groups as assigned.
  • Oversee the coordination of the Murfreesboro Indigenous Plant Project: Oversee native plant propagation efforts, Seed collection management, Inventory and seasonal sales, Nursery care, Data management, Leading volunteers in Nursery Care, seed collection, and cleaning, maintaining native beds, Planning planting projects, Managing planting projects, Managing plant sales.
