About The Position

Oversees the daily operation to include inspecting and repair of fire hydrants and valves, installation and repair of water services and main water lines as needed, addressing customer complaints for water quality, handling and scheduling water line flushing activities, coordinating and scheduling jobs with the engineering department and community partners, and ensuring the effective supervision of several crews including the preparation of reports, prioritizing and assigning work schedules. Employee must be available nights, weekends and holidays to respond to emergency incidents upon request.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three to five years of relevant job-related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the inspection, repair, and diagnostic functions of valves, hydrants, and the maintenance of vehicles and related equipment
  • Strong understanding of OSHA, ACSA safety regulations, and VDOT guidelines
  • Valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Class A combination vehicle endorsement
  • Tanker endorsement
  • Asbestos Supervisor License
  • Class 5 Water Works License
  • CPR Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • AED Certification
  • Intermediate Work Zone Certification
  • VDOT Flagging Certification
  • Entry Supervisor for Confined Space Certification
  • NIMMS Training
  • Valve Certification

Responsibilities

  • Preparing work schedules
  • Coordinating with engineering staff
  • Responding to citizen inquiries
  • Overseeing the installation and repair of hydrants, valves, water mains, and services
  • Performing concrete and pavement repairs
  • Scheduling and directing leak detection and water line flushing programs
  • Maintaining equipment and vehicles
  • Ensuring staff productivity
  • Operating a variety of equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, dump trucks, and specialized leak detection tools
  • Using hand and power tools
  • Using CMMS (Cityworks) to document inspection and work order activities
  • Enforcing safety procedures, work zone policies, and adherence to OSHA and VDOT regulations
  • Performing other duties as assigned
