About The Position

This role involves using independent judgment and critical thinking to compile key financial data for accurate credit risk representation in loan requests. This includes analyzing global cash flow, collateral, industry, management, and overall repayment capacity. The analyst will independently complete underwriting according to regulations, compliance terms, bank policy, and legal requirements. A key part of the role is recommending appropriate risk grades and supporting them with identified risks, mitigants, and strengths. The analyst will also serve as a resource for credit write-ups and tax return analysis, and proactively assist Commercial Lenders with portfolio management functions such as annual reviews, loan review preparation, and regulatory examinations. The role requires accurate spreading of financial statements and tax returns, analysis of historical performance, and review of proformas for reasonableness. Developing and measuring appropriate loan structures and covenants to provide early warning of potential credit risk and mitigate losses is also a responsibility. The analyst will prepare pertinent reports, track financial information, and review appraisals and other industry reports for various risks. A thorough understanding of loan documents is necessary, as is participation in customer meetings and preparing customer communications. The role involves working with customers to obtain updated financial statements and assisting Commercial Lenders in presenting loan requests to approvers, Senior Lenders, and Loan Committee. The analyst may also present credit requests and attend other meetings. Obtaining, analyzing, and incorporating third-party borrower information, researching inconsistencies, and maintaining data integrity are crucial. The analyst will work with Commercial Lenders on classified assets and reporting, and may assist in training new analysts. Maintaining ownership of accepted tasks and taking a proactive approach to learning and career development are expected. The role requires sound application of the bank’s credit culture and policies, acting as a policy expert, and maintaining awareness of and adherence to the bank’s compliance requirements and risk management concepts.

Requirements

  • Accurately spread financial statements and tax returns and analyze historical performance.
  • Review proformas for reasonableness.
  • Develop and measure appropriate loan structures and covenants to provide advance warning of potential credit risk and mitigate losses.
  • Prepare pertinent reports, track financial information and receipt thereof.
  • Review and analyze appraisals, as well as other industry reports, for market, credit, construction, and economic risks
  • Possess a thorough understanding of loan documents
  • Participate in customer meetings, prepare customer communication on behalf of the Commercial Lender.
  • Work with customers in obtaining updated financial statements.
  • Assist Commercial Lenders with presenting loan requests to approvers, Senior Lenders, and Loan Committee as needed.
  • Attend and participate in other meetings. May present credit requests on behalf of Commercial Lenders
  • Obtain, analyze, and incorporate third-party borrower information (e.g. credit reports, costar, RMA). Research inconsistencies. Maintain data integrity
  • Work with the Commercial Lenders on classified assets and reporting thereof
  • Assist in the training of new analysts as needed
  • Maintain ownership of all accepted tasks

Responsibilities

  • Use independent judgment and critical thinking in the compilation of key financial data for the accurate representation of credit risk in loan requests including global cash flow analysis, collateral analysis, industry analysis, management analysis, and overall repayment capacity
  • Independently complete underwriting in accordance with current regulations, compliance terms, bank policy, and legal requirements
  • Recommend appropriate risk grade; supporting the grade with risks, mitigants, and strengths
  • Serve as a valuable resource for credit write-up and tax return analysis
  • Proactively assist the Commercial Lenders in portfolio management functions including: seeking out and assisting in the annual review process, loan review preparation, and regulatory examinations. May manage said processes and examinations.
