About The Position

The Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (CPCU) provides comprehensive care for critically ill children and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. The unit serves pre-term infants, neonates with complex disease, children of all ages, and the adult congenital population. It is committed to service excellence and a model of interdisciplinary care, featuring 34 beds, dedicated pediatric cardiac-specialized nurses, CPCU attendings, a core of advanced care providers, an active mechanical assist program, and active participation in PC3. There are extensive opportunities for clinical, translational, and acute care registries.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD)/Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Board Certified in Pediatrics.
  • Board Eligible/Certified in Pediatric Cardiology.
  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of pediatric cardiology fellowship with experience in neonates with complex and single ventricle physiology.
  • Must be able to be flexible, collaborative within the Heart Institute and other areas within CHCO.

Responsibilities

  • Provides care for patients admitted to the CPCU, including those from the CHC emergency department, transfers from outside institutions, direct admissions, and transfers from the CICU.
  • Experience and familiarity with heart disease in patients from neonates to adults with congenital heart disease.
  • Supervision of patient care and progression in partnership with Advanced Practice Providers, pediatric cardiology fellows, pediatric residents, and medical students.
  • Partnership with cardiology nursing leadership and bedside nurses.
  • Develop, implement and promote educational and support resources.
  • Participate in PAC3 multi-institutional database and liaison with like institutions and units.
  • Develop clinical guideline pathways and quality improvement initiatives.
