About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Coverage Certified IV Admixture Technician to join their team, supporting the Gulf Coast Region, including Houston, Texas, and surrounding areas. This role also has the potential for travel to all TxO Clinic Locations. The specific level (I, II, or Senior) will be determined by the candidate's experience. Texas Oncology is a leading community oncology provider with a vast network across Texas and southeastern Oklahoma, dedicated to making advanced cancer care accessible. The Pharmacy Tech, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performs technical, non-judgmental medication preparation tasks. With minimal supervision, they are responsible for record-keeping and inventory control. All tasks are subject to final verification by a registered nurse or pharmacist. The role supports the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Specific state laws may restrict licensed individuals from performing compounding or mixing responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy (for Level I).
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (for Level II).
  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (for Level Senior).
  • Previously demonstrated ability to mentor and train technicians (for Level Senior).
  • Technical and Functional Experience: Possesses up-to-date knowledge of the profession and industry; regarded as an expert in the technical/functional area.
  • Adaptability: Handles day-to-day work challenges confidently; adjusts to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change; shows resilience in the face of constraints, frustrations, or adversity.

Nice To Haves

  • I.V. certification preferred (for Level II).
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended (for Level II).
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience (for Level Senior).
  • Completion of an ASCP accredited program or community college-based program recommended (for Level Senior).

Responsibilities

  • Delivers training to pharmacy technician and pharmacist new hires.
  • Tracks training assignments and attendance and provides reports to management.
  • Routinely checks in with new pharmacy technicians to ensure training goals and progress are being met.
  • Partners with other pharmacy technician trainers, mentors, preceptors, and managers/supervisors to ensure consistency of training and onboarding.
  • Customizes training programs based on schedule and availability of employees (e.g., virtual, one-on-one, on the job training).
  • Assists with maintaining and updating all training materials as processes, policies, or procedures are changed.
  • Conducts observations and evaluations and prescribes best training approach based on results and needs of the company.
  • Identifies training issues and opportunities for enhancement and development.
  • Encourage pharmacy technician advancement, development, and certification.
  • Maintain annual competencies set forth by company policy through supervisory visit conducted by corporate clinical team member.
  • Obtain appropriate state registrations or licenses as needed.
  • Participates in the coverage pool as scheduled and manager approval allows.
