About The Position
The Courtesy Clerk/Grocery Bagger creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. Duties include bagging groceries carefully, assisting customers with their purchases and vehicles, maintaining store and parking-lot cleanliness, returning merchandise, gathering carts, conditioning shelves, and supporting customer questions and checkout needs. The associate also follows safety and food-safety requirements, reports hazards and equipment issues, and complies with applicable laws and company guidelines. The position requires working cooperatively in a fast-paced environment, handling conflict constructively, acting honestly with customer and business information, and providing support to minors, people with special needs, and older adults. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities
- Bag groceries at checkout, aiming for at least five items per bag while preventing damage.
- Use best practices when bagging items in reusable, plastic, or paper bags.
- Assist with removing customers’ merchandise from the bottom of the bascart at checkout.
- Offer to help customers load bags into their cars.
- Perform basic shelf conditioning.
- Inform customers about grocery specials.
- Return merchandise to store shelves.
- Gather bascarts and return them to designated areas.
- Clean spills and collect and pick up trash inside the store and in the parking lot.
- Clean all areas inside and outside the store.
- Handle and assemble seasonal merchandise.
- Learn the store layout, locate products, and conduct price checks for cashiers.
- Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues, and notify store management.
- Follow food-safety regulations and guidelines.
- Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager when repairs are needed.
- Answer customer questions about products in the department and throughout the store, helping customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
- Comply with local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
- Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Manage conflict reasonably, cooperatively, and without confrontation.
- Handle customer and business information honestly and with integrity.
