About The Position

Under limited direction and in collaboration with the Deputy Court Administrator, manages the City of Boulder Municipal Court Probation and Community Court programs. Performs tasks related to Probation and Community Court operation, including implementing new initiatives to improve and expand existing programs. In partnership with the Deputy Court Administrator, this position will provide support effectively coordinating court programs. Will participate in planning and projects to address quality-of-life violations.

  • Knowledge of state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and management and related alternative funding methods.
  • Knowledge of human services and non-profit systems and services.
  • Skill in written and oral communication: Speaking or writing to communicate ideas in interviews, email coordination, and recruitment.
  • Actively listens to concerns and is open to the ideas of colleagues and customers.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with the public and coworkers, with excellent customer service skills.
  • Skill in instructing or mentoring: Teaching someone how to do something.
  • Demonstrating commitment to mentoring others, answering questions, and providing a safe learning space.
  • Must successfully pass a background check before first day of work and maintain acceptable screening.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily operations of the probation and community court program.
  • In partnership with the Deputy Court Administrator, will support implementation of any plans of operations to expand probation and community court programs.
  • Ensures courtroom operations are in compliance with new and relevant legislation.
  • Oversees Municipal Court files and documentation are maintained appropriately in record keeping system.
  • Performs community outreach and makes presentations to the public, elected officials, civic organizations.
  • Researches and propose additional funding opportunities from federal, state, local, and private entities, gathers data and prepares documents to grant reporting requirements.
  • Participates in interdepartmental work groups, city teams, community organizations, and other relevant stakeholder/committee groups as a representative of court programs.
  • Performs related duties as required by supervisor to meet the needs of the department and city.
  • Manages a caseload to support Probation Officer and Court Navigator.
  • In collaboration with the Deputy Court Administrator, conducts research and support policy writing.
  • Provides direct supervision for Probation Officers, Navigators, and coverage for absences or backup as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Deputy Court Administrator, establishes expectations, work priorities, and standards for performing job duties.
  • Supervises staff by guiding, coaching, mentoring, and checking work product.
  • Trains new staff and trains all staff in new systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Facilitates accomplishment of individual goals and objectives, tracks individual employee performance, and conducts annual performance evaluations.
  • Participates in the hiring and progress discipline of staff.
