About The Position

The Court Investigator Supervisor for the Probate Department provides oversight and guidance to the Court Probate Investigators unit. The Investigations unit of the Probate Court makes pre- and post-appointment visits to vulnerable adults who have been deemed to need a guardian by the court. Investigators are skilled and trained observers, who act as the “eyes and ears” of the court. The supervisor will demonstrate strong strategic and operational leadership by regularly reviewing existing work practices and tools to identify opportunities for improvement or expansion. They will communicate clearly and collaboratively with both internal departments and external stakeholders to support the delivery of high-quality services. Using sound judgment and data analysis, the supervisor will identify trends that impact the unit and translate this information into actionable improvements. They will set clear expectations, provide consistent coaching and feedback, and foster a professional, accountable, and motivated team environment. Through continuous evaluation, thoughtful problem-solving, and a commitment to operational excellence, the Court Investigator Supervisor will ensure that the unit remains adaptable, efficient, and aligned with departmental goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience with seriously mentally ill populations, persons with physical and/or mental disabilities, the homeless population, or directly related Judicial Branch experience with two (2) years of casework or investigation experience in a legal, financial, law enforcement, or social services setting.
  • Applicants must have or obtain a valid Arizona Driver License and reliable vehicle by time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed courses in the National Center for State Court’s Court Executive Development Program.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Experience supervising and managing staff with a constantly changing caseload.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, supervises, and directs Probate Investigators and Justice System Clerks through monitoring workloads, reviewing and approving the coordination of work, providing initial and ongoing training, and evaluating performance.
  • Analyzes data to determine case assignments, individual performance, unit statistical information, and overall unit performance.
  • Performs the tasks of the team as necessitated by department workload, case complexity, and time constraints.
  • Establishes, promotes, and evaluates performance goals and objectives for annual performance evaluations.
  • Provides direction to Investigators to resolve complex case management and case monitoring issues.
  • Frequently represents the Investigations department to judicial officers, court staff, and other agencies.
  • Resolves customer concerns by liaising with other court departments, administrators, and judicial officers.
  • Reviews court activities for compliance with laws, court rules or administrative direction, and analyzes the need for rule revisions.
  • Develops policies and procedures, implements policy decisions and coordinates with other court departments, county departments, community organizations or other jurisdictions to ensure compliance.
  • Analyzes resource allocation, customer service delivery trends, and case statuses and presents detailed reports to management.
  • Assists Administrators with monitoring and developing annual budgets.
  • Articulate the process and procedures of the investigation, guardianship, conservatorship, and court to concerned members of the investigation.
  • Appears as a witness and testifies in Court as necessary regarding the investigation and subsequent recommendation.
  • Maintains a valid Arizona Driver's License, personal vehicle, Vehicle Use Permit and performs extensive travel throughout Maricopa County.
