About The Position

Responsible for Court Marshal duties for the City of Wheat Ridge Court, including serving subpoenas and legal notices, serving and executing arrest warrants, transporting prisoners, providing courtroom and jury security, conducting security screening and perimeter security checks, monitoring security and surveillance systems, and performing assigned photo radar citation review and verification. Provides a visible security presence within City Hall and assists visitors with general direction or access to appropriate City services as necessary.

Requirements

• Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, court procedures, security practices, prisoner control, warrant execution, and service of process.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn courtroom, jury-security, photo radar, body-worn camera, and law-enforcement procedures.
• Ability to safely operate security and law-enforcement equipment and systems.
• Ability to recognize and assess threats, maintain situational awareness, and respond appropriately to safety and security concerns.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions, and appropriately apply de-escalation, defensive tactics, and use-of-force principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, law enforcement, court participants, and the public.
• Ability to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
• Ability to interact respectfully and professionally with individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
• Ability to prepare accurate reports, maintain records, and use computers and court/law-enforcement databases.

• Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods while performing security, screening, surveillance, and perimeter-monitoring duties.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent and current basic first aid certification
• Two (2) years of law enforcement or Court Marshal experience.
• Colorado P.O.S.T. certification.
• Maintain required firearms, Taser, and arrest-control certifications/qualifications.
• Successfully complete required training for security screening equipment, security systems, body-worn cameras, photo radar procedures, and other assigned systems.
• Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and sensitivity to cultural diversity and individual differences.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
• Employees relocating to Colorado must obtain a Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire.
• Work indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather, temperature changes, and varying noise levels.
• May encounter moving vehicles, confrontational individuals, bodily fluids, and other hazards associated with court security, prisoner transport, service of process, and law-enforcement duties.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform security, screening, surveillance, and perimeter checks.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, grasp, pull, and perform repetitive hand and finger movements.
• Ability to maintain balance and safely navigate various surfaces and environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and drag up to 180 pounds as required.
• Ability to perform defensive physical tactics and other physical activities necessary to protect oneself or others when authorized.
• Ability to communicate effectively through speaking and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Visual acuity sufficient for driving, security screening, surveillance, photo radar review, and identifying persons, objects, hazards, and security concerns.
• Successful completion of the following pre-employment requirements is required: Physical examination, Background investigation, including fingerprinting, employment and criminal history, driving record, and education verification, Polygraph examination, Psychological evaluation, Drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Provide courtroom and City Hall security, including bailiff and jury security duties and front-desk coverage including answering phones.
• Screen persons and property entering City Hall and Court using magnetometers, X-ray equipment, handheld devices, and other security equipment.
• Conduct security checks of City Hall, Court facilities, grounds, parking areas, and access points; monitor cameras, alarms, access-control systems, and other security technology.
• Respond to disturbances, threats, suspicious activity, emergencies, evacuations, and other security incidents; coordinate with Police, Fire/EMS, and other agencies as needed.
• Serve subpoenas, citations, warrants, restraining orders, and other court-issued legal process; conduct related investigations.
• Execute arrest warrants and detain individuals when authorized; coordinate with the Wheat Ridge Police Department as required.
• Safely transport prisoners to and from Municipal Court and detention facilities.
• Review and verify photo radar citations and related documentation.
• Maintain accurate records and reports related to security incidents, arrests, transports, service attempts, perimeter checks, photo radar, use of force, and other Marshal activities.
• Operate, inspect, and maintain assigned security and law-enforcement equipment; report deficiencies.
• Enter and maintain information in court, law-enforcement, and other authorized systems.
• Communicate and coordinate with judges, court staff, law enforcement, prosecutors, detention facilities, emergency responders, City departments, and the public.
• Compile required program reports and perform related duties as assigned.
