About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of working-level duties related to the legal system of the City including documenting and tracking court cases and meeting the demands of the City's Justice Court.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process; Administrative and clerical procedures, systems such as Microsoft Word, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms and other office procedures.
  • Skilled in office management duties; composing correspondence; handling multiple projects with interruptions; prioritizing and organizing workload to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to enter, record, store and maintain information in written or electronic form; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • High School graduation or GED, and
  • One (1) year of related experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as first point of contact for Justice Court clients; answer phones and assist walk-in traffic
  • Justice Court case management and maintenance
  • Ensure that documents are accurate and correct
  • Prepare correspondence as directed by the Justice Court Judge or Court Clerk Supervisor
  • Receive fines, forfeitures and fees related to the justice court and keep daily dockets of monies received
  • Verify that payments are current
  • Assist in preparing court calendar and status
  • Complete monthly and quarterly reports for the Court System
  • Respond to telephone and public inquiry in regard to judicial procedures, court appearances, trial dates, adjournments, outstanding warrants, summonses, subpoenas, witness fees and payment of fines
  • Search files, obtain information for the court
  • Maintain a productive working environment which includes, but is not limited to, a spirit of cooperation with co-workers, peers and the public
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Court Clerk Supervisor.
