About The Position

The Appellate Courts of the Alaska Court System (ACS) invite applications for a Court Case Manager 2 (salary range 12). The selected applicant will exercise excellent customer service and teamwork skills to produce a professional work product while processing and appropriately routing documents filed in the appellate courts, ensuring cases move along the prescribed path, and distributing court decisions on motions and cases. Responsibilities include opening new appeals; establishing paper and electronic case files; preparing, issuing, and distributing notices; setting and monitoring case deadlines; and entering case information and follow-up tasks into the court’s case management system. The Court Case Manager 2 evaluates motions to determine the appropriate level of review, routes motions accordingly, decides routine motions, and prepares assignment memoranda summarizing case status, requested relief, opposition, and other pertinent information for individual justices, judges, and the full court. Additional duties include processing trial court records and transcripts, calculating briefing schedules, preparing and distributing notices to parties, receiving and routing petitions and responses, preparing and distributing orders, maintaining case records, and responding to procedural questions from parties, attorneys, court staff, and the public regarding appeals, petitions, motions, and briefs. The position also supports oral arguments by coordinating with parties, preparing the courtroom, retrieving files and records, accommodating media and participants, and serving as the in-court clerk by operating courtroom equipment and tracking attorney time. The incumbent reviews opinions and orders for accuracy, prepares opinions for distribution, maintains strict confidentiality prior to issuance, and communicates with parties and trial court judges regarding issued decisions. Additional responsibilities include providing front-counter customer service, answering the court’s main telephone line, reconciling cash drawers, assisting with training new case managers, and performing other duties as assigned. These duties may be reassigned within the division based on business requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer.
  • Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
  • Post-secondary transcripts, if using education to meet minimum qualifications.
  • A list of at least three (3) professional references, who have had supervisory authority over you along with their daytime contact phone numbers and email addresses.
  • Applicants must certify that they have a legal right to accept employment in the United States.
  • The employee is responsible for maintaining the appropriate documentation to accept or continue legal employment.
