SALARY RANGE: $39,511.00 - $57,438.00 District Court 1, serving Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties, seeks a qualified candidate to perform a variety of secretarial and administrative tasks for the Chief District Court Judge and other District Court judges in the 1st judicial district. This position reports to the Court Manager. Work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: court rules and procedures; general office procedures; grammar and punctuation; word processing; commonly used rules, procedures, or methods, to perform assignments.
  • Skills in: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to: screen communications and based on content, handle independently or route to proper destination; apply grammar and punctuation rules; type with accuracy and speed; spell accurately; use judgment in organizing and establishing document format; give basic information and instructions regarding programs or office based on inquires; operate office equipment such as copier, calculator, fax machine, computer, and telephones.
  • Graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal; or an associate degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Attach cover letter and résumé.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing all Civil calendars for Pasquotank County (Divorce, Domestic Violence, Trials, Motions, Pre-trial, EQUD).
  • Handle FFS (Family Financial Settlement) tracking and scheduling.
  • Arbitration.
  • Issue permits to allow for cell phones and electronic devices inside the courthouse.
  • Attend court sessions.
  • Serve as the liaison between the judicial office and internal and external agencies.
  • Responding to email inquiries from attorneys and other court professionals.
  • Serve as administrative professional to Chief Judge.
  • Retrieve and distribute daily mail from the Clerk's Office.
  • Answer telephone calls.
  • Respond to Jurors who makes their request via letter US Mail they will notify via letter US Mail or if print out from the I-Juror computer.
