About The Position

McGill’s School of Information Studies Master’s program is seeking Course Lecturers to teach courses for Fall 2026. The courses offered are INFS 607 Organization of Information, INFS 609 Metadata and Access, INFS 614 Public Libraries, INFS 617 Information System Design, INFS 634 Web System Design & Management, INFS 642 Preservation Management, and INFS 680 Introduction to Information Security and Cryptography. Each course is a 3-credit course with specific schedules, locations, and salaries. The Faculty of Arts has standardized Course Lecturer contract start and end dates from August 31, 2026, to January 5, 2027. Salary will be commensurate with the salary scale for Course Lecturers as described in the McGill Course Lecturers and Instructors Union Collective Agreement. Requirements

  • Have taken MISt-level coursework in organization of information (for INFS 607).
  • Demonstrated professional expertise in organization of information in libraries, archives, or other information organizations (for INFS 607).
  • At least 2 years recent experience as a librarian, archivist, or information professional in organization of information (for INFS 607).
  • A Master’s degree in Information Studies (or equivalent) is required (for INFS 607, INFS 614, INFS 617, INFS 634).
  • Successfully completed courses in information studies at the graduate level, including the courses on metadata and access (for INFS 609).
  • At least two years’ experience as a professional archivist, preferably in an academic setting (for INFS 609, INFS 642).
  • A Master’s degree is required (for INFS 609, INFS 642).
  • Successfully completed courses in librarianship at the graduate level, including the courses in public libraries (for INFS 614).
  • At least two years’ experience as a public librarian (for INFS 614).
  • Successfully completed Information Studies courses at the graduate level (for INFS 617).
  • Completed the course (or an equivalent one) and taught graduate courses in Information Studies (for INFS 617).
  • At least 3 years of professional experience with information systems, including their design and implementation (for INFS 617).
  • Successfully completed graduate-level courses in web system design (for INFS 634).
  • Successfully completed courses in information studies at the graduate level, including the courses on preservation management (for INFS 642).
  • At least 10-year industrial experience in IT with strategic vision and broad knowledge in cybersecurity, from cryptograph to access control, from malware to risk assessment, from information security policies to cloud security (for INFS 680).
  • Excellent track record of hands-on experience in cybersecurity (for INFS 680).
  • A Bachelor's degree, a Master’s degree or a Doctoral degree in the relevant area (for INFS 680).
  • Previous experience in creating and teaching cybersecurity course(s) (for INFS 680).
  • Prior online and in-person teaching experience (for INFS 680).
  • Excellent communication skills (for INFS 680).
  • Have passion to be a good teacher (for INFS 680).

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally, the candidate will have had taught a course in public libraries (for INFS 614).
  • Ideally, the candidate will have had at least two years of experience as an information professional (for INFS 634).
  • A working knowledge of French would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses for Fall 2026.
  • Prepare and improve online video recordings, quizzes, assignments, and virtual lab materials (for INFS 680).
  • Guide online discussions (for INFS 680).
  • Answer students’ questions (for INFS 680).
  • Guide students to complete assignments and projects (for INFS 680).
  • Grading (for INFS 680).
