About The Position

The Department of Philosophy at McGill University is inviting applications for a course lecturer position to teach PHIL 221-001, Introduction to History and Philosophy of Science 2, in Fall 2026. This is a supplemental course lecturer position. The course covers a survey of the development of modern science since the Eighteenth Century. The schedule for the course is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:35 am to 11:25 am, running from August 31, 2026, to December 4, 2026. The location for the course is ENGMD 280. Requirements

• Completed a PhD degree or be enrolled in a doctoral program in Philosophy.
• Provide evidence of highly effective teaching ability as a result of having successfully taught or worked as a teaching assistant in a similar course.
• Have research specialization or competence in the development of modern science since the 18th Century.
• Be authorized to work in Canada.
• Be willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based/located.
• Possess English communication skills both verbally and in writing.

• Demonstrate research specialization or competence in the development of modern science since the 18th Century through refereed publications and/or conference presentations in the field.
• Demonstrate research specialization or competence in the development of modern science since the 18th Century through thesis level research on one or more topics in the field.
• Demonstrate research specialization or competence in the development of modern science since the 18th Century through prior experience successfully teaching this or a closely related course in the field.
• Demonstrate research specialization or competence in the development of modern science since the 18th Century through minimally, at least two graduate-level courses on topics in the field.
• Submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae.
• Submit a copy of your Study/Work Permit if applicable.
• Submit a brief course outline (optional).

Responsibilities

• Teach PHIL 221-001 Introduction to History and Philosophy of Science 2 (3 Credits - CAP 85) in Fall 2026.
• Conduct a survey of the development of modern science since the Eighteenth Century.
