About The Position

The University of Niagara Falls Canada (UNF) is seeking a versatile and experienced Courseware Developer to join the developing Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) team. This role involves reporting to the Director of CTE and collaborating with academic and administrative units to create interactive, research-grounded multimedia educational elements for UNF courses and programs. The ideal candidate will possess strong soft skills for effective teamwork, the ability to innovate and work independently on multiple projects, and leadership in developing best-practice multimedia development and data gathering strategies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for troubleshooting technical issues and proactively addressing challenges. This is a 10-week contract position with a per-course rate of $7,200, paid in installments.

Requirements

  • Ability to design structured, engaging courses that promote ethical reasoning and critical discussion.
  • Skill in developing lecture materials, case studies, and discussion prompts centered on ethical dilemmas.
  • Experience creating assessments such as argumentative essays, case analyses, and reflective writing.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to model clear and persuasive argumentation.
  • Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (e.g., Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle).
  • Ability to scaffold learning from foundational ethical theories to complex applied analysis.
  • Experience integrating real-world scenarios and contemporary issues into course content.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in aligning learning outcomes, content, and assessments.
  • Strong understanding of major ethical frameworks (e.g., utilitarianism, deontology, virtue ethics, care ethics).
  • Familiarity with key philosophers and texts in moral philosophy (e.g., Aristotle, Kant, Mill, contemporary ethicists).
  • Knowledge of applied ethics areas (e.g., business ethics, bioethics, social justice, technology ethics).
  • Understanding of moral reasoning, argumentation, and philosophical analysis.
  • Awareness of diverse and global perspectives in ethical thought.
  • Familiarity with contemporary ethical debates and their societal implications.
  • Understanding of academic writing and argumentation standards at the undergraduate level.
  • Knowledge of inclusive approaches to teaching literature in a Canadian context.
  • Master’s or PhD in Philosophy, Ethics, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, or course design in philosophy or humanities.
  • Experience teaching or developing undergraduate courses in moral philosophy, ethics, or applied ethics.
  • Demonstrated ability to design assessments that evaluate ethical reasoning, critical thinking, and argumentative writing.
  • Experience developing or adapting courses for online or blended learning environments.
  • Familiarity with both classical and contemporary ethical theories and their real-world applications.
  • Knowledge of copyright and fair dealing practices in educational contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop interactive and engaging courseware aligned with instructional objectives.
  • Create and develop course materials and curriculum that aligns with the learning objectives.
  • Design and develop interactive e-learning modules, videos, simulations, and assessments.
  • Utilize eLearning authoring tools to create multimedia-rich content.
  • Integrate multimedia elements, including graphics, animations, and videos, to enhance courseware interactivity.
  • Manage multiple courseware development projects concurrently.
  • Conduct comprehensive quality assurance reviews to validate accuracy, completeness, and adherence to course design standards.
  • Develop project plans, track progress, and meet project deadlines.
  • Work closely with the project team to understand training needs, objectives, and project timelines.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing insights on courseware development strategies.
  • Continuously research and stay abreast of industry trends, emerging educational technologies, and instructional design methodologies where relevant.
  • Apply innovative approaches to courseware development to enhance the overall learning experience.
  • Ensure compatibility and responsiveness across various devices and platforms.
  • Ensure accessibility and responsive design for all elements integrated in the LMS.
  • Collaborate with CTE colleagues to develop and build courses, workshops, and interactives to support faculty development.
  • Support the overall mission of CTE to support the development of programs, courses, and faculty support at UNF.
  • In collaboration with CTE colleagues, represent CTE in program development project teams.
