About The Position

The University of Niagara Falls Canada is in search of a versatile and experienced Courseware developer. As a courseware developer you will report to the Director: Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and work closely with the developing CTE team, including the Senior Instructional Designer, and other academic and administrative units across the UNF community, in the development of interactive and research-grounded multimedia educational elements in UNF courses and programs. The collaborative nature of this work necessitates that the courseware developer must have excellent soft skills to work effectively on project teams to support course and program development. Coupled with these collaborative skills, the courseware developer will bring with them the ability to use their knowledge to innovate, work independently on multiple projects at one time, and lead the CTE team in its development of best practice multimedia development and data gathering strategies to support the advancement of UNF and its technologically grounded programs. They will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical issues and be proactive in their approach to identifying and addressing potential challenges.

Requirements

  • Ability to design structured, industry-relevant courses that integrate theory with practical application.
  • Skill in developing case studies, simulations, and real-world scenarios related to tourism and hospitality.
  • Experience creating assessments such as case analyses, project-based assignments, and presentations.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate industry concepts into clear learning materials.
  • Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (e.g., Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle).
  • Ability to scaffold learning from foundational concepts to strategic and operational applications.
  • Experience integrating multimedia content (e.g., destination case videos, industry reports) into course delivery.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in aligning learning outcomes, content, and assessments.
  • Strong understanding of tourism management principles, including destination planning, tourism marketing, and operations.
  • Knowledge of sustainable tourism, ecotourism, and responsible travel practices.
  • Familiarity with global tourism trends, industry challenges, and economic impacts.
  • Understanding of customer experience management within tourism and hospitality contexts.
  • Knowledge of policy, regulation, and stakeholder dynamics within the tourism industry.
  • Awareness of cultural, environmental, and social considerations in tourism development.
  • Understanding of business fundamentals as they relate to tourism (e.g., strategy, marketing, operations).
  • Master’s or PhD in Tourism Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, or course design in tourism, hospitality, or business disciplines.
  • Experience teaching or developing undergraduate courses in tourism management, sustainable tourism, or hospitality operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to design assessments that evaluate applied knowledge, strategic thinking, and industry-relevant skills.
  • Experience developing or adapting courses for online or blended learning environments.
  • Familiarity with global tourism trends, destination management, and sustainable tourism practices.
  • Knowledge of copyright and fair dealing practices in educational contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop interactive and engaging courseware aligned with instructional objectives.
  • Create and develop course materials and curriculum that aligns with the learning objectives.
  • Design and develop interactive e-learning modules, videos, simulations, and assessments.
  • Utilize eLearning authoring tools to create multimedia-rich content.
  • Integrate multimedia elements, including graphics, animations, and videos, to enhance courseware interactivity.
  • Manage multiple courseware development projects concurrently.
  • Conduct comprehensive quality assurance reviews to validate accuracy, completeness, and adherence to course design standards.
  • Develop project plans, track progress, and meet project deadlines.
  • Work closely with the project team to understand training needs, objectives, and project timelines.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing insights on courseware development strategies.
  • Continuously research and stay abreast of industry trends, emerging educational technologies, and instructional design methodologies where relevant.
  • Apply innovative approaches to courseware development to enhance the overall learning experience.
  • Ensure compatibility and responsiveness across various devices and platforms.
  • Ensure accessibility and responsive design for all elements integrated in the LMS.
  • Collaborate with CTE colleagues to develop and build courses, workshops, and interactives to support faculty development.
  • Support the overall mission of CTE to support the development of programs, courses, and faculty support at UNF.
  • In collaboration with CTE colleagues, represent CTE in program development project teams.
