About The Position

Seeking a student pursuing an education at a university or technical school, with a focus on public policy, political science, rhetorical leadership, public and non-profit administration, and/or law for a part-time, under twenty (20) hours per week (approximately), paid internship position with the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, the legislative branch of County government. Schedule is flexible within business the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekends for county events. This internship is planned for the Fall, and the position will pay $15.00 per hour for a period of one (1) college semester. Paid intern(s) will report to County Board Chairwoman and provides services to department and district Supervisory offices. An eligible candidate must be highly organized and able to prioritize work assignments with moderate supervision and balance assignments from multiple staff to support both district and departmental projects. A qualified candidate will be adept with technology and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and cloud-based applications. A preferred candidate is a capable communicator with interest in public service and has excellent written and verbal communication skills and enthusiasm for public communications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and proof of current enrollment at a post-secondary school required.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to attend in-person events or for in-person work in the County Board office.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily projects.
  • Generate posts for official County Board social media.
  • Attend committee meetings on behalf of the Board.
  • Support County Supervisors with legislative projects related to public policy, constituent services, citations, and coordination of County Board presentations.
  • Assist with constituent reports and events.
  • Complete the process of sorting records for historical retention.
  • Front desk reception services.
