About The Position

The Counter Sales Representative will partner with customers to provide industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and other essential supplies. This role serves as a trusted guide, advising customers on the tools, hardware, and materials needed to successfully complete their projects. By demonstrating equipment use and sharing insights on product quality, you help our customers pioneer new solutions in their own work. The position is responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment to ensure a secure environment for everyone. It provides excellent customer service to both internal and external partners, fostering understanding and long-term relationships. The role ensures all required paperwork is accurately completed, including coding, costing, and pricing. The Counter Sales Representative partners with customers to identify the best tools and procedures for their specific tasks and demonstrates equipment use to build customer confidence. This role manages order entry and processes transactions, and assists the team with the reconciliation of deposits. It coordinates via phone, e-mail, and in person with customers and team members to provide helpful information on costs and delivery. The position contributes to an outgoing call strategy to support the continued growth and success of the branch. It also coordinates the transfer of merchandise between locations to meet customer needs and maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a supportive manner with customers, vendors, and colleagues. Additionally, the role stocks shelves and maintains welcoming showroom displays to provide an excellent customer experience. Responsibilities also include coordinating cylinder movement and pallet organization, performing various duties in the plant such as forklift operation, material handling and sorting, inspecting, and/or cylinder maintenance work. This includes inspecting cylinders prior to filling, conducting safety checks, analyzing products for purity and correct mixtures, handling high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders, preparing high-pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling, and attaching to the manifold and evacuating cylinders. The role also assists with loading and unloading cylinders, operates warehouse equipment, manages paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards, completes quality control sheets, understands hazards of various gases by reading cylinder labels and color-coding, accurately labels cylinders, and complies with all government and company standards for safely handling hazardous materials/cylinder gases.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in product, warehouse, or sales environments ( we also value an equivalent combination of education and unique life experience ).
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
  • Attention to detail in handling transactions.
  • Availability for occasional overtime when the team needs extra support.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in industrial retail, inside sales, or inventory control is a plus.
  • A background in gas, welding, or safety supplies is a wonderful asset.
  • Familiarity with SAP, Google, or MS Office Applications.
  • A detailed understanding of SAP and PROS functionalities.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and warmly with a wide variety of people from different backgrounds.

  • Performing various duties in the plant to include forklift operation, material handling and sorting, inspecting, and or cylinder maintenance work.
  • Inspects cylinders prior to filling, following standard procedures as required by government, Airgas, and distributor standards.
  • Conducts a variety of Safety checks per procedures, such as odor tests and checking caps and valves.
  • Analyzes products for purity and correct mixtures.
  • Handles high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders.
  • Prepares high-pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling.
  • Attaches to the manifold and evacuates cylinders to eliminate all possible contaminants.
  • Assists with the loading and unloading of cylinders on and off pallets and tractor trailers.
  • Operates a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment.
  • Manages paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards.
  • Completes quality control sheets as required.
  • Understands hazards of various gases, sizes, and contents of cylinders by reading and interpreting cylinder labels and the color-coding of tanks.
  • Accurately labels cylinders.
  • Complies with all government and company standards for safely handling hazardous materials/cylinder gases.
