About The Position

The Counter Sales Representative w/ VMI Technician position partners with customers to provide medical, industrial, specialty gases, welding equipment, hard goods and tools. In addition, this role supports and coordinates deliveries or services of key vending account customers and customer cabinets / storerooms relative to inventory of gases, consumables and safety products. This position fosters understanding and provides solutions for inquiries from either walk-in or call in customers. The VMI portion of this position focuses on nurturing relationships with existing accounts throughout an assigned territory. Additionally, this position performs basic troubleshooting and mechanical repairs as needed to support operations. Assists with the identification of product or location of merchandise through the development of new customer relationships and sales from both walk-in and telephone call-in customers. Accurately completes and files all required paperwork on a timely basis, documenting sales, quotes, and other information. Enters sales & quote data into the computer and researches information for customers using the computer application system. Supports and manages payments received for merchandise or services, entering sales into the application system and adhering to all administrative and accounting-related procedures. Wraps and bags purchases and helps customers load merchandise into their vehicles. Provides warehouse support for shipping & receiving, inventory stocking, cleaning, labeling, or other dock tasks as needed. Restocks store merchandise according to inventory and arranges merchandise on display in the sales area, keeping products in order according to use. Marks or tickets merchandise. Uses established safety procedures for cylinder handling during exchanges and storage of cylinders. Maintains showroom cleanliness by procedures set forth by management. Maintains current price documentation and product literature as it becomes available, staying current on product knowledge or changes. Performs basic troubleshooting and repairs mechanical systems as needed. Reviews manual stock levels of various inventories for the branch and at multiple plant departments for reorder. Tracks and turns in delivery tickets and consignment fill tickets. Maintains compliance for vehicle manifests, labeling, and loads, ensuring they are properly completed, balanced with truck counts, and meet regulatory guidelines (DOT, FDA, OSHA, and SAFECOR). Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting deficiencies and ensuring all safety items are in good working order. Champions our shared safety rules and ensures any accidents or injuries are promptly reported to management. Operates a pallet jack, forklift, and other warehouse equipment. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Five years of related experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience that has prepared you for this role.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrated safe driving skills and a valid driver's license from the state of residence.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Commitment to operating in a drug-free workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to five years of experience in an industrial retail, inside sales, customer service, and/or inventory control related environment.
  • Experience with SAP or similar systems is a plus.
  • Intermediate skills in the Google Platform.
  • One year of familiarity with arc and gas welding.
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating a dynamic flow of paperwork accurately and on time, often with self-directed initiative.
  • Ability to build alignment and communicate clearly by phone, email, or in person with customers and the broader branch team.
  • Flexibility to contribute occasional overtime when supporting deliveries or colleagues in the branch.
