About The Position

This is a one-year, full-time temporary position at Fresno City College. The role involves providing counseling services to students, with a focus on UC transfer. The position requires an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to support students from various backgrounds. Responsibilities include developing Student Educational Plans (SEPs), teaching career and personal development courses, conducting workshops, and connecting students with campus resources. The counselor will also maintain counseling notes, interpret articulation agreements, and utilize career assessment tools. Collaboration with faculty and participation in outreach activities are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling; or A valid California Community College Credential; or The equivalent education and/or experience.
Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
Knowledge and utilization of instructional best practices for students in the classroom.
Knowledge of California Community Colleges matriculation processes.
Knowledge of student development theories pertaining to community college students.
Experience working effectively with student success programs.
Demonstrated ability to use a broad range of technology pertaining to data collection and analysis for student success.
Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.

Responsibilities

Designing and preparing Student Educational Plans (SEPs) for community college students.
Teaching courses in career and personal development and/or conducting workshops.
Developing and presenting counseling related workshops and orientation sessions.
Participating in outreach activities in the community and on campus.
Providing counseling and follow-up services to students on probation or academic dismissal status.
Connecting students with on/off campus resources to assist them in their college life management.
Working closely with faculty in academic divisions and engaging in collegial dialogue on issues of student success.
Developing and maintaining counseling notes in Starfish or similar electronic record keeping software in a timely and effective manner.
Interpreting and utilizing articulation agreements and transfer requirements for community college students.
Using and interpreting a variety of career assessment tools.
