About The Position

The Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) in Albuquerque, a nationally accredited program within the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, investigates sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected, or unknown cause of death cases in New Mexico. The OMI determines the cause and manner of death and provides formal death certification. OMI is seeking a Counselor/Social Worker for its Grief Services Program, which offers counseling, information, referrals, advocacy, and emotional support to individuals and families experiencing the sudden death of a loved one. This program provides short-term counseling and referrals to community grief support groups or longer-term counseling options at no cost to families. The ideal candidate will have a background in family and children's counseling, specifically in trauma, PTSD, grief, and loss, and be proficient in the solution-focused model and referral processes for various agencies. As a teaching facility within the School of Medicine, the program also invites interns, and ideal candidates will be excited to provide leadership and guidance to them.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or directly related field.
  • At least 6 months of directly related experience which may include internship and/or practicum.
  • NM licensure as LPCC, LPC, LMHC, LMSW, LCSW, or equivalent level, OR licensed out of state and eligible for NM licensure.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • CPR and Basic First Aid Certificate may be a requirement for some positions in this classification.
