About The Position

This role involves providing therapeutic counseling, prevention, and intervention services, promoting mental health awareness, and coordinating Accessibility Services. Responsibilities range from routine counseling and crisis intervention to mental health presentations, workshops, trainings, screenings, consultations with faculty and staff, referrals to external providers, and programming events. The position is responsible for all aspects of the university's accessibility services program.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and effective public relations skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Sensitivity, creativity, and an understanding of persons and their interaction.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.

  • Greater skill levels in above areas.
  • Experience in delivering direct services virtually.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Experience in teaching, personnel supervision, and management.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group therapeutic counseling to students in areas such as personal, social, academic, career, and other related areas; case management related to counseling including planning, evaluation and recording of each counseling session.
  • Consults with faculty and staff regarding student concerns as needed or requested.
  • Submits monthly reports of counseling activity.
  • Reads, studies, and researches areas of relevance to counseling and attends trainings for Continuing Education (CE) required to keep Texas licensure current.
  • Program planning, staffing, and evaluation with other departmental staff.
  • Coordinates all aspects of a university accessibility services program.
  • Presents seminars, workshops, trainings, and screenings on mental health awareness to students, staff, faculty, and/or various other groups including orientation sessions, classroom presentations, and residential living professional staff and residential assistants.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, promoting and evaluating various activities including orientation, mental health awareness, domestic violence awareness, sexual assault awareness, and substance abuse awareness.
  • Attends workshops, training sessions, and conferences on subjects related to responsibilities.
  • Consults with faculty and staff on certain disciplinary, substance abuse and other concerns related to students.
  • Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the university.
