About The Position
This position is located at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon/Eisenhower, Georgia. The Counseling Psychologist (Substance Abuse) will be responsible for conducting comprehensive substance abuse treatment of patients using advanced concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relevant to the substance abuse program and addiction medicine outpatient program. The role involves conducting evaluations for various individuals referred for consultation and applying complex rehabilitation principles for comprehensive substance use evaluations. The psychologist will provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy, make clinical assessments, document findings, and counsel patients on illnesses.
Requirements
- US Citizens
- Two full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Performing professional counseling and addiction medicine treatment in support of patients with an alcohol and substance abuse diagnosis; Applying rehabilitation principles to conduct comprehensive substance use evaluations; and Providing professional counseling to substance abuse patients.
- Possess a current, active, valid, unrestricted counseling/psychologist license from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive substance abuse treatment of patients using advanced concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relevant to the substance abuse program and addiction medicine outpatient program.
- Conduct evaluations of Soldiers, family members, retirees, and eligible Federal civilian employees referred for consultation.
- Apply complex rehabilitation principles to conduct comprehensive substance use evaluations.
- Provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy.
- Make clinical assessments to inform treatment decision-making.
- Document case findings, diagnoses, and recommendations.
- Counsel patients on primary and secondary illnesses.
