The Cost Accountant is responsible for standard cost system analysis and management, including developing standard costs for products, maintaining the cost database with monthly updates and bill of material reviews, costing machine shipments, and forecasting cost of goods sold. This role involves analyzing and recording monthly Purchase Price Variance, Scrap expense, and other inventory entries, as well as reviewing manufacturing variances for reasonableness and resolving reporting errors. The Cost Accountant will also analyze product warranty expenses, calculate monthly provisions, and collaborate with Operations to develop and implement management reports for product line analysis. Additionally, the position provides support for lean manufacturing processes and special cost projects. Inventory analysis and reporting are key functions, including reviewing cycle counting results, reconciling monthly book inventory to perpetual records, explaining differences, reviewing obsolescence accruals, and developing year-end LIFO information. The role assists in monthly closing/forecasting activities, the development of the Annual Operating Plan, and labor rate calculations. The Cost Accountant may be required to assist other divisions on temporary assignments and perform other duties as assigned.
