About The Position

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for standard cost system analysis and management, including developing standard costs, maintaining the cost database, costing machine shipments, and forecasting cost of goods sold. This role involves analyzing and recording monthly variances, manufacturing variances, and product warranty expenses. The Cost Accountant will also work with Operations to develop reports for product line analysis, support lean manufacturing processes, and assist with special cost projects. Additionally, the position includes inventory analysis and reporting, such as reviewing cycle counting results, reconciling book inventory, and developing LIFO information. The Cost Accountant will also assist with monthly closing/forecasting activities, the Annual Operating Plan, labor rate calculations, and may be assigned to assist other divisions on a temporary basis. This description is not exhaustive and incumbents may be required to perform other related functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Three to five years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in financial and SOX audits
  • Experience in budgeting
  • Experience in year-end closings
  • MS Office skills, particularly Excel
  • MRP system experience
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • MBA, CMA or CPA recognition is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Develop standard costs for products.
  • Maintain cost database, including monthly cost updates and review of bills of material.
  • Cost machine shipments and forecast cost of goods sold for monthly forecasts.
  • Analyze and record monthly Purchase Price Variance, Scrap expense, and other inventory entries.
  • Review monthly manufacturing variances for reasonableness and resolve reporting errors.
  • Analyze product warranty expenses and calculate monthly provision.
  • Work with Operations to evaluate, develop, and implement reports for product line analysis.
  • Provide support and assistance in the development of lean manufacturing processes.
  • Provide support and assistance on special cost projects and teams.
  • Review cycle counting results.
  • Review monthly book inventory to perpetual records and explain differences.
  • Review obsolescence accrual.
  • Develop year-end LIFO information.
  • Assist in monthly closing/forecasting activities.
  • Assist in the development of the Annual Operating Plan.
  • Assist in labor rate calculations.
  • Be available to assist other divisions on temporary assignment as required.
  • Perform other duties, assignments, and special projects as required.
