About The Position

The Advanced Sources and Detector (ASD) Project is responsible for the fabrication, installation, and commissioning of an ~ 20 MeV linear induction electron accelerator, through the coordination of efforts at Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, and the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). Nicknamed Scorpius, the machine will be used to diagnose subcritical experiments at the NNSS, within an underground complex (U1a; 963 feet below grade) in support of the Enhanced Capabilities for Subcritical Experiments Program. LANL is seeking a motivated individual with a background in science, engineering, or project management to become a Control Account Manager (CAM). In this role, you will manage cost, schedule, and technical performance for key parts of a major project supporting stockpile stewardship program. As a CAM, you will lead a cross-functional team to achieve project goals while ensuring safety, meeting requirements, and staying within budget and schedule. This is a hybrid role. The position will be located onsite at Los Alamos National Lab on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and can work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in project management, with a focus on managing complex and technically challenging projects.
  • Proficient knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tools and solid understanding of advanced project management principles.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, budgeting, cost control, scheduling, and variance analysis.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing large projects to successful completion.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting detailed project reports and updates to stakeholders, including federal sponsors.
  • Good understanding of construction, engineering, procurement, and industry standards.
  • Previous project management experience and responsibilities should include: Managing large projects ($10M+ TPC) and project teams (20+ people) through representative project lifecycle phases.
  • Defining, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and successfully completing discrete elements of scope in compliance with defined schedule, costs, risk, and quality constraints.
  • Maintaining satisfaction of stakeholders with differing needs and expectations.
  • Managing communications between project stakeholders and team members.
  • Identifying and complying with project requirements in development of products and deliverables.
  • Managing the project team in successfully achieving project scope, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.

Nice To Haves

  • DOE O 413.3B knowledge and experience as it relates to project planning and execution is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with the Department of Energy (DOE) or National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) or equivalent at headquarters or field office level, or with state or federal regulators, or other national security agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Leading a cross-functional team, which includes members with diverse skills and expertise from different departments or specialties, to ensure the team works cohesively to achieve the project objectives.
  • Planning, budgeting, managing and controlling costs and schedule performance for a project or sub-project and serve as a point of contact for project controls, including account scope, schedule, budget and technical performance.
  • Leading efforts to ensure work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work and perform variance analysis reviews, determine cause and effect of schedule or cost variance and define achievable corrective action plans.
  • Presenting project management performance plans, status updates, trends, or issues to federal sponsors.
  • Managing Control Accounts within large 413.B projects that may involve complex and technically challenging scopes of work.
  • Reviewing and presenting as required project progress reports, developing forecasts and overseeing appropriate corrective action(s) when necessary.
  • Providing subject matter expertise and proven experience with project controls and/or project management, project budgets including cost estimating, cost control and cost analysis, project scheduling, implementation of corrective actions, developing and delivering detailed and accurate status reports and subject matter expertise and proven experience with engineering functions and principles required to understand and successfully implement and monitor technical projects.
  • Managing, coordinating and administering major projects that may involve several Laboratory organizations.
  • Managing large projects and to take corrective action, monitor work, manage conflict, and coordinate the activities of others, including joint ventures, alliances and consortium.
