Corrections Utility Plant Operator - SCI Coal Township

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) Coal Township is seeking an energetic and highly motivated person with experience in the safe operation of an institution utility plant. It plays an important role in maintaining reliable plant functions and overseeing assigned inmate workers.
Requirements
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor boiler systems in both routine and emergency situations
- Complete inspections, cleaning tasks, and minor repairs to sustain plant performance
- Manage pumps, fans, and control systems that support boiler operations
- Conduct chemical tests, track results, and maintain water treatment supplies
- Direct inmate workers, ensure safe movement, and maintain proper tool and supply controls
- Communicate concerns to your supervisor and complete assigned records and reports
