About The Position

The Department of Corrections is seeking an energetic and qualified individual for the position of Corrections Specialist Assistant at Airway Heights Corrections Center. Airway Heights Corrections Center is a 2000 + bed male facility located approximately 10 miles west of Spokane. The prison consists of a facility that houses medium and minimum custody incarcerated individuals (I/I). Whether the work is inside a prison, in community corrections, or in an administrative office, the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all offenders can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society. The Corrections Specialist Assistant works under the direction of the Correctional Specialist 3 (CS3) performing supporting a legally defensible hearings process that supports safety to the prison population and the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible office/clerical work experience.
  • One (1) year work experience maintaining confidential and sensitive information and documents.
  • Type 50 wpm.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs (I.e., Excel, Outlook, and WORD).
  • Knowledge of computers, systems, and data entry programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable with Washington Administrative Code (WAC), the Revised Code of Washington (RCW’s), and Policies relating to Prison Discipline.
  • 2 years experience working with or around offenders.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage hearing packets from receipt of the infraction, up to the time of the hearing.
  • Review and monitor the needs of each hearing packet ensuring that appropriate witness statements and continuances are obtained and that the Disciplinary Hearing Officer is advised of any delays.
  • Independently manage and maintain working files from completion until filing.
  • Receive and process appeals, from receipt to filing.
  • Enter Good Conduct Time Restorations.
  • Redact reports in accordance with policy requirements.
  • Scan and appropriately code all documents for retention in the electronic file.
  • Route the completed/reviewed hearing packet to Records for hard filing.
  • Maintain appropriate copies for local office hard filing.
  • Regularly run reports on outstanding general/serious hearings and address deficiencies.
  • Runs reports, responds to public disclosure requests and documents requests from headquarters.
  • Assists Correction Specialist 3 with periodic reviews/reports/Monthly Reports.
  • Inventories, orders, tracks evidence, safety equipment and office supplies.
  • Initiates phone calls to contact staff to notify and obtain delinquent paperwork, folders, and files not meeting policy drive timeframes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
