Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor - SCI Laurel Highlands
About The Position
The Department of Corrections is looking for a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands who is ready to lead and inspire. In this position, you will train inmates in real-world refrigeration situations that support facility operations. Your teaching will help inmates gain experience and skills that prepare them for success. Bring your expertise to our department! This position provides classroom and hands-on instruction in the refrigeration mechanic trade while ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
Requirements
- Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.
- Possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
- Able to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach refrigeration practices, methods, installation, repair, and maintenance to inmates
- Direct inmate crews, assign daily tasks, and inspect completed work
- Maintain order, track progress, and document attendance and training records
- Issue, inventory, and search all tools and materials used during training and work assignments
- Identify needed supplies and submit purchase requests for tools and materials
