About The Position

The State Correctional Institution (SCI) Chester is seeking a Corrections Plant Mechanic to maintain essential utility systems and mechanical equipment that support facility operations. The role includes inspecting, testing, and maintaining equipment and systems, as well as supervising inmate workers and supporting safe, orderly plant operations. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. The schedule is 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework is not available. New employees of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania start at an annual salary of $49,010 before taxes. The position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55. Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

Requirements

One year of experience performing skilled mechanical repair work involving heavy machines, along with training gained through high school graduation; or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
Ability to perform essential job functions.
Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on boilers, compressors, and water systems.
Test multiple water systems and maintain accurate logs, inventories, and chemical supplies.
Perform seasonal startup and shutdown procedures for cooling towers and chilled water systems.
Check fluids, test batteries, and inspect fuel tanks to ensure standby generators are ready for use.
Supervise inmate workers, maintain safety procedures, and ensure proper control of tools and supplies.
Maintain clean and orderly plant spaces.
