Requirements
- One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Persons seeking employment under the four years of experience option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.
Responsibilities
- Guide and direct subordinate officers to maintain proper care, custody, and control of inmates
- Conduct housing unit tours and coordinate schedules and facility activities across security, movement, and service areas
- Observe inmate behavior, address concerns, and document incidents and activities
- Oversee inmate transports, visitor searches, and vehicle inspections for safety and compliance
- Investigate staff issues, participate in discipline procedures, and address grievances
- Act in emergency situations to maintain order and follow established procedures
