Requirements

  • One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Persons seeking employment under the four years of experience option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and direct subordinate officers to maintain proper care, custody, and control of inmates
  • Conduct housing unit tours and coordinate schedules and facility activities across security, movement, and service areas
  • Observe inmate behavior, address concerns, and document incidents and activities
  • Oversee inmate transports, visitor searches, and vehicle inspections for safety and compliance
  • Investigate staff issues, participate in discipline procedures, and address grievances
  • Act in emergency situations to maintain order and follow established procedures
