About The Position

The Corrections Officer 3 with the Department of Corrections (DOC) offers an exciting opportunity to lead teams and support strong security operations in a dynamic institutional setting. You help coordinate daily schedules, support organized inmate movement, and guide officers in staying focused and confident. Your leadership builds stability and structure at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette. This position lets you make a strong impact on facility operations while supporting a team that depends on your direction and experience. This position focuses on supervisory oversight and the coordination of daily facility operations throughout the institution. You support staff performance, security procedures, and organized inmate movement to ensure a stable and well-functioning environment.

Requirements

  • One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Persons seeking employment under the option of four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.

Responsibilities

  • Lead correctional officers and monitor their duties for compliance with policies and regulations
  • Coordinate daily schedules and maintain records related to security, movement, and activities
  • Conduct regular inspections of inmate areas and identify concerns or behavioral changes
  • Ensure inmate transports, searches, and processing activities follow required procedures
  • Investigate staff violations, issue discipline, and assist with grievance reviews
  • Act in urgent situations with appropriate intervention and prevention measures
