About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Registered Nurse, Corrections Nurse Trainee. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a correctional facility. The successful candidate shall demonstrate a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing assignments pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting. Requirements

Graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.
Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
Maintain a current active licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.
Ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
Ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.

Responsibilities

Performs on-the-job training in a variety of nursing care functions, such as administering medications, monitoring vital signs and examining individuals in custody utilizing nursing assessment skills and techniques.
Receives formal training on how to assess patient progress.
Receives hands-on training in proper procedures to set up, operate and monitor special equipment, such as respirators, and suction devices, AED, oxygen.
Receives extensive on-the-job training.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
