About The Position

The Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 3 at the Palmer Correctional Center (PCC) and Mat-Su Pretrial (MSPT) in Palmer, Alaska. This role involves supervising, mentoring, and evaluating nursing staff to ensure quality and compliance with established policies and procedures. The nurse will triage and assess patients, maintain medical records, observe and document changes in inmate conditions, and handle crisis situations effectively. The position serves in a leadership capacity to plan, organize, and evaluate health operations and electronic health record systems in compliance with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
  • Two years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse, one of which must have been at the full-performance/journey level.
  • Prior service as a Corrections Nurse 2, Psychiatric Nurse 2, or Nurse 2 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
  • Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class.
  • Proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
  • Successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting.
  • Successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire.
