About The Position

The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Mental Health Clinician 3 position at the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) located in Anchorage, Alaska. This position will coordinate mental health services for inmates housed at Anchorage Correctional Center – West, including within the Acute and Subacute Psychiatric Units. The role involves screening and triaging inmates with a wide variety of diagnoses, providing treatment planning, mental status exams, and risk assessments. Additionally, the position provides clinical and administrative supervision to the location’s mental health staff, including quality assurance, appointments, evaluations, and training.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree OR Master’s degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work, child guidance, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.

  • Psychology: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of human behavior and performance in various contexts, mental processes, or the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Therapy and Counseling: Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental ailments, and career guidance.
  • Progressively responsible professional experience performing psychotherapeutic casework.
  • Official or unofficial transcripts of highest level of education.
  • Three professional references.
  • Certification that applicants have a legal right to accept employment in the United States.
  • Must pass a criminal history check.
  • Must be fingerprinted.

Nice To Haves

  • Must be licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Professional Counselor (this requirement will be addressed in the job posting).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate mental health services for inmates housed at Anchorage Correctional Center – West including within the Acute and Subacute Psychiatric Units.
  • Screen and triage inmates presenting with a wide variety of diagnoses including severe and persistent mental illness, behavior problems, organic disorders, alcohol/drug abuse, developmental disabilities and personality disorders.
  • Provide treatment planning, mental status exams, and risk assessments through the evaluation of existing history, prior psychological testing, clinical observations, and direct interviews.
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to the location’s mental health staff, including quality assurance, appointments, evaluations, and training.
