About The Position

The Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 2 position at the Fairbanks Correctional Center (FCC), located in Fairbanks, Alaska. This role involves providing general nursing care to patients, including triage and assessment, administering prescribed medications and treatments, and participating in therapeutic activities. The nurse will observe, document, and report changes in the physical and mental conditions of inmates, maintain patient medical records, and handle crisis situations calmly and effectively. Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska
  • One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse (e.g., Corrections Nurse I, Psychiatric Nurse I, or Nurse I with the State of Alaska or its equivalent)
  • Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class.
  • Proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
  • Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting.
  • Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Corrections Nurse I with the State of Alaska
  • Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Psychiatric, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.
  • Familiarity with policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Comfortable practicing in a highly autonomous setting.
